Senior German Localisation Specialist

Are you a dedicated localisation specialist with a passion for the German language and a relentless eye for detail? 

As our Senior German Localisation Specialist, you will be our German linguistic guardian and hands-on expert for Secret Escapes’ inspirational deal content. You will execute high-volume, high-quality translation and ensure every word resonates with our German members. Most importantly, you will leverage your expertise in Translation Management Systems (TMS) and Machine Translation (MT) to drive efficiency and perfectly align the brand’s voice, inspiring confidence and bookings across one of our most critical markets.

The Content Team

You’ll be joining a highly focused and pioneering Content Team. Our mission is clear: to be the Content Quality Gatekeepers, ensuring the highest quality and most engaging source and translated content across all global markets.

The role & things you’ll be working on:

• Execute rapid, high-quality content: Perform post-editing for all critical German content, from English (UK) into native German. This ranges from our core Hotel (HO) and Package (PKG) deals to technical UX/UI microcopy, Customer Service macros, website FAQ pages and legal T&Cs.

• Ensure linguistic quality: Conduct final linguistic quality reviews on content, guaranteeing accuracy, cultural relevance and strict adherence to the German style guide and brand tone of voice.

• Develop external localisation partnerships: Act as the operational coordinator and main point of contact for our external network of German freelancers, assigning QA and translation jobs, monitoring throughput, providing constructive linguistic feedback and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery.

• Oversee AI Content QA (German): Confidently oversee quality assurance of AI-generated content translated into German (via MT or direct German LLM output, where applicable), diagnosing and fixing linguistic errors and cultural misalignment.

• Develop linguistic assets: Own the maintenance of the German style guide, glossaries, and linguistic assets within the TMS (Smartling) to drive consistency across all internal and external resources.

• Leverage Localisation Technology: Utilise the Translation Management System (Smartling) daily to execute and track projects, manage translation memories, and leverage MT output efficiently.

• Support MT Optimisation: Work closely with the Localisation Project managers to identify common MT errors, provide feedback on engine performance and support the optimization of MT systems for the German language pair.

• Maintain Quality Feedback Loop: Establish a robust, collaborative quality feedback loop with the UK AI Content Specialists, communicating critical linguistic, MT-related or clarity issues in the source English content, to support continuous refinement of AI-generation inputs.

You will bring:

• German language expertise: Proficiency must be in line with a native speaker (DE), alongside fluent professional proficiency in English (UK).

• Localisation/translation expertise: Proven experience in high-volume, professional translation, post-editing, and Quality Assurance, preferably within an e-commerce or travel content context.

• Freelancer Coordination: Proven experience in operationally handling and coordinating external German freelancers and/or Language Service Provider (LSP) resources, including providing clear instructions, linguistic feedback, and quality scoring.

• Localisation Best Practices: Proven understanding of core localisation best practices, quality assurance methodologies, and tone-of-voice adaptation for the German market.

• TMS and MT System Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience working with a Translation Management System (TMS) like Smartling or similar professional CAT tools (e.g., Trados, Memsource). This must include proven ability to manage Linguistic Assets (Translation Memories, Glossaries) and actively work within Machine Translation (MT) post-editing workflows to drive quality and efficiency.
